About us

Emerging from the vibrant heavy music scene of State College, Pennsylvania, Befell represents the evolution of modern metalcore through authentic songwriting, technical precision, and raw emotional intensity. Formed in 2020 by frontman/guitarist Bruce Boring and guitarist Mitchell Caprio, the band has rapidly ascended from local underground heroes to a nationally recognized force in contemporary heavy music.

What makes Befell's story particularly compelling is Bruce Boring's journey as a vocalist. Despite never having fronted a band before Befell's formation, his commanding presence and versatile vocal range—spanning from guttural screams to soaring clean vocals—has become the band's defining characteristic. This fresh perspective, combined with Mitchell Caprio's intricate guitar work, creates a sound that feels both familiar and innovative within the metalcore landscape.

The band's evolution culminated in their debut full-length album "To Mourn the Living," released October 10, 2025, through Innerstrength Records. The 32-minute, 9-track opus showcases Befell's maturity as songwriters and their ability to balance crushing heaviness with atmospheric depth. Tracks like "Marionette," "Lost Carcosa," and "Disappearing" demonstrate their range—from devastating breakdowns to emotionally charged clean passages that reveal influences spanning classic metalcore to modern progressive elements.

Prior to the full-length release, Befell built their reputation through a series of well-received singles and EPs, including "Uproot EP" (2021), "Grave of the Condemned King EP" (2022), and standalone singles like "Solitude," "The Blood I've Bled," and "Waiting for the Sky." Each release showed the band's continuous evolution and growing confidence in their sound, setting the stage for the definitive statement that is "To Mourn the Living."

Completed by bassist Jon Perini and drummer Jace Ebersole, Befell's rhythm section provides the thunderous foundation that allows the band's more experimental elements to flourish. Their live performances have become legendary in the Pennsylvania scene, with the band's ability to translate their recorded intensity to the stage earning them slots supporting both regional and national acts.

As Befell enters their next chapter with "To Mourn the Living," they represent everything compelling about modern metalcore: technical proficiency without sacrificing emotion, heaviness balanced with melody, and most importantly, authenticity in an era where genuine artistic expression can be rare. With tour plans expanding beyond their Pennsylvania stronghold, Befell is positioned to make a significant impact on the broader heavy music landscape.
